MALAYSIA is urging Middle Eastern nations to cut ties with Israel following its siege and bombing of the Palestinian territory of Gaza, says Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh.
The Malaysian Parliamentary Caucus for Palestine head said this was a way for such nations to protest the Israeli regime’s continued oppression of Palestine.
“We urge the countries involved to revoke their normalisation ties with Israel,” he said in a press conference at the Parliament yesterday.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan established diplomatic and trade ties with Israel following the Abraham Accords in 2020, which had been brokered by US President Donald Trump.
Egypt and Jordan had forged ties with Israel in 1979 and 1994, respectively.
Syed Ibrahim said the caucus also welcomed the government’s decision to do everything possible for Palestine.
“Malaysia should continue to implement an aggressive diplomatic policy apart from calling the actions of the Israeli regime apartheid.
“We must ensure that the RM100mil aid from Malaysia to Palestine is channelled properly to them,” he said.
The Ledang MP said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is clear with Malaysia’s stand on the Palestine-Israel conflict where the Palestinians are being dispossessed.
“We want the rights and land to be returned to Palestinians. Something urgent must be done to end the cruelty of the Israeli regime other than making sure that humanitarian aid is distributed to those affected by the war in Gaza,” he added.
Earlier, Anwar had told the Dewan Rakyat that he would bring up the Gaza-Israel conflict at the Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
