SCB should take off by year end, says Liew

KOTA KINABALU: The planned Sabah Convention Bureau (SCB) to promote meetings and exhibition destinations is expected to be launched before the end of the year, says State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew.

To be placed under her ministry, SCB is set to play a key role in promoting Sabah as a preferred destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) events.

Liew said the proposed hosting of the International Women CEO Summit in 2024 by the Sabah Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals Association (Swepa) fits in well with the state’s aspiration to push Sabah as a MICE destination.

“We welcome any form of collaborative effort for any MICE event for the common good of the state.

“My ministry will be most happy to render support within our capability.

“Provided that your proposed project is eligible for the assistance from my ministry,” she said when officiating the 15th installation of the Swepa committee here.

Earlier, newly elected Swepa president Karen Wong had requested the ministry’s support for the summit to be hosted in Sabah.

Wong said women leaders from neighbouring countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and possibly the United States will gather for the event next year.

“This summit aligns with our objective of sharing profound knowledge in the realm of women leadership and empowerment with local women entrepreneurs and professionals in Sabah.

“The event will host discussions on pertinent topics such as women’s needs, aspirations and overall well-being,” the Swepa president added.
