UN should deploy peacekeeping troops to end atrocities in Palestine, says Hamzah

KUALA LUMPUR: The United Nations (UN) must send its peacekeeping troops to end the atrocities in Palestine by the Israeli regime, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

The opposition leader said the government could make such a motion during the Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit.

“Perikatan is urging the Malaysian government to fully utilise the GCC this Thursday (Oct 19).

“It is better if the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) take proactive and bold measures by sending out the OIC peacekeepers to the Gaza borders,” he said in a press conference at the Parliament lobby on Wednesday (Oct 18).

Hamzah said immediate action must be done following an Israeli air strike which killed 500 people at a hospital in Gaza on Tuesday (Oct 17).

The Perikatan secretary-general also said there is a need for collective decision at an international level to impose economic and legal sanctions against Israel.

“The economic powers of two billion Muslims globally should be used to put pressure on the Israeli regime and its allies.

“Therefore, the Malaysian government should make full use of the GCC by raising awareness to the Muslim world leaders to respond to what is happening in Palestine,” he added.

Hamzah also said leaders from the United States, United Kingdom, and France had displayed double standards by rejecting Russia’s proposed cease-fire resolution between Israel and Hamas at the UN Security Council on Monday (Oct 16).

"Perikatan will continue to use all available channels and networks, including ‘people to people diplomacy’ to ensure that Palestine gets justice and help at all levels," he said.
