SHAH ALAM: PAS is now at its strongest but must remain humble and use its parliamentary strength to tackle the people's woes, says party Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari.
“PAS is at its utmost top (level) in history," he said in his policy speech at the wing's annual general assembly here on Thursday (Oct 19).
“We are at our best now but we must be humble (following) our wins and ensure that our governance is clean and is for the people, by addressing the woes and economic concerns of the masses.
“The great win entrusted to us by God (comes with) great responsibility and trust, (accompanied by) a sense of humility and servitude.
“The victory cannot be used as capital to enrich ourselves but instead be used as an opportunity to improve the people's welfare.
“This is what will attract foreign direct investment into Perikatan Nasional states,” he added.
Ahmad Fadhli pointed out that the wing has a bigger responsibility following the last general election and the recent state elections, which proved that PAS has the support of Malay youths.
“In the (August) state elections, the young voted (in large numbers) for PAS in the states which Perikatan won," he added.
PAS has 42 parliamentary seats, the highest of any individual party, out of the Opposition's 73.
The four Perikatan states of Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis are also governed by Mentris Besar from PAS.
Ahmad Fadhli, the MP for Pasir Mas, also described the unity government as being too defensive and only good at rhetoric.
"One minister told the people that if you cannot afford chicken, eat less chicken. By that analogy, should we stop eating rice as we are now faced with a rice shortage?” he asked.
He said in his view, the current rice shortage could have been contained, as seen by the Terengganu government's success with its homegrown Beras Ganu brand.
He also urged PAS Youth to get more involved in agriculture.
The annual general assembly is held in conjunction with PAS’ 69th Muktamar here from Friday (Oct 20).
