Penang CM to sue Tan over allegedly defamatory remarks

GEORGE TOWN: Chow Kon Yeow will take legal action against Penang Chinese Chambers of Commerce (PCCC) life honorary president Tan Sri Tan Kok Ping over alleged defamatory remarks against the Penang Chief Minister.

This was the unanimous decision made by the state executive council that met on Thursday (Oct 19).

Tan had purportedly made the allegedly defamatory remarks against Chow at a press conference on the controversial land deal in Batu Kawan on Wednesday (Oct 18).

"The exco's decision was made based on Tan's remarks in both online and Chinese print media, which were deemed humiliating and insulting the pride of the Chief Minister," Chow said in a statement.

Chow and PCCC have been in a war of words on the land deal, which the organisation claimed was done without proper due diligence.

When contacted, the PCCC secretariat said it was too soon to comment as they haven't seen the legal letter yet.
