28 undocumented foreigners arrested in Negri

SEREMBAN: Immigration has detained 28 foreigners for flouting several regulations and entering the country illegally, says its state director Kennith Tan Ai Kiang.

They were detained in operations carried out in Nilai, Kuala Pilah and here on Oct 17 and 18.

"The inspections were carried out at 12 premises in the three areas.

"We conducted checks at residential areas, shoplots, mini markets and houses that were undergoing renovations," he said.

Tan said apart from conducting its own surveillance, the operations were carried out based on public feedback.

In total, his officers conducted checks on 122 foreigners.

He said of the 28 detained, five were women.

"Eleven of those detained were Bangladeshis, five each from Indonesia and Myanmar and one each from India and Pakistan.

"The females were all Myanmar nationals," he said, adding that those detained were later taken to the Immigration depot in Lenggeng near here.

Tan said the cases are being investigated under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying and Section 6(1)(c) of the same legislation for entering the country illegally.

"Some are being probed under rule 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for misusing their social visit passes," he added.
