Masidi calls for patience from GRS allies as frustration grows over grassroots appointments

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun has called for patience from coalition partners in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)-led state government, saying it would be difficult to accommodate everyone with a position.

The GRS secretary-general said there were a limited number of posts, pointing out even members of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, which is the GRS anchor party, had complained they had not been given positions promised.

"The new Sabah government has only been in existence for some nine months, so the adjustment in distribution of positions will take time," he told reporters after an event here on Friday (Oct 20).

"While we accept the fact they need to be accommodated, I think we also need to be a bit more humane in managing (the issue of) other people who are currently holding the jobs.

"So, my answer is to be patient. It will happen but give time for the adjustments," he added.

Masidi said this when asked about Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedick's reminder to GRS that it was able to spearhead the state government now only due to support from Pakatan Harapan during the Sabah political crisis in January.

The Penampang MP said the cooperation between GRS and Pakatan must be translated through power sharing all the way down to the grassroots level.

The Sabah political crisis was triggered after Sabah Barisan Nasional-Umno withdrew support for the GRS government on Jan 6.

However, GRS managed to muster the support of 44 out of 79 assemblymen then including from seven Pakatan representatives and several Sabah Umno renegades.

Several Sabah Umno leaders including its chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin were later removed from the state Cabinet.
