SHAH ALAM: PAS is making inroads with young Malay Muslim voters while it craves for more votes from the non-Muslims.
Its president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party has seen a rise of support from younger voters since the 15th General Election, as well as the state elections.
“What is interesting is that we are getting more support from the youth who read from social media.
“And we have seen the shift from the voting streams especially from the youth so we need to pay attention to this.
“In fact, we know that Malays are not interested in politics, the non-Malays go out to vote and the Malays did not. This is dangerous for the Malays and we need to raise awareness on the matter,” he said in a press conference after launching the 69th PAS muktamar at IDCC Centre Shah Alam on Friday (Oct 20).
On attracting non-Malay voters, Abdul Hadi admitted the Islamist party’s narrative has yet to reach the targeted group which was limited to social media.
“Our information and narrative did not reach and was disturbed by negative propaganda to put Islam in a bad light by DAP at the national level but also by others at the international stage,” he added.
The party president also said PAS had invited non-Malays for dialogue sessions held at hotels, claiming that the event was blocked by certain ruling parties at the time.
He said the party had ruled the Kelantan government for close to 30 years and the non-Malay voters had accepted them.
“The non-Malays know how we ruled (in Kelantan), the same in Terengganu and Kedah.
On the Palestinian cause, Hadi said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s support for Hamas is not strong enough.
He said Anwar was not vocal in voicing support for the Palestinian group in fighting against the Israeli regime.
“He is not vocal in his support, he did not dare voice his support for Hamas,” he added.
