Foreigners rounded up

SEREMBAN: A total of 28 foreigners have been rounded up for flouting several regulations and entering the country illegally.

State Immigration director Kennith Tan Ai Kiang said the suspects were detained during operations in Nilai, Kuala Pilah and here on Oct 17 and 18.

“The inspections were carried out at 12 premises.

“We conducted checks at residential areas, shoplots, mini markets and houses that were undergoing renovations,” he said.

Tan said the raids were a result of its own surveillance and information received from the public.

In total, Immigration officers conducted checks on 122 foreigners.

He said of the 28 detained, five were women.

“Eleven of the men were Bangladeshis, five each from Indonesia and Myanmar, and one each from India and Pakistan.

“The women were all Myanmar nationals,” he said, adding that those detained were later taken to the Immigration depot in Lenggeng.
