JB residents, businesses caught off guard by power outage in several areas

JOHOR BARU: Some residents and business owners in Johor Baru town were caught off guard by a sudden power outage in several areas since 4pm on Saturday (Oct 21).

Business owner Roland Lim, 70, said many were shocked when they suddenly got cut off from electricity despite not receiving any prior notice from Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).

"The whole row of shops along Jalan Meldrum, including mine, are affected by the power outage.

"This is the first time we suddenly had a power outage without any prior notices. I hope that TNB could resolve this issue as soon as possible as it is causing a lot of inconvenience," he said.

When contacted, Johor Works, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh confirmed the power outage, adding that electricity is expected to be back at around 11pm.

"Among affected areas include Wisma MBF, Hong Leong Finance Caltex, Jalan Tar, Merlin Tower and Sungai Segget.

"TNB is currently resolving the matter and we expect electricity to be back at around 11pm," he said, adding that the possible cause of the outage is drilling works at the area.
