Jepak polls: Parti Sarawak Bersatu pledges support for GPS candidate

BINTULU:Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) has pledged its support for the GPS candidate in the Jepak by-election, says its president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh (pic).

Present at the nomination centre at Dewan Suarah here on Saturday (Oct 21), Koh said that he turned up to pledge PSB's support for GPS's Iskandar Turkee.

Wong said PSB members in Bintulu would also be campaigning for Iskandar "to ensure a landslide victory for GPS."

The by-election was called following the death of six-term assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilp on September 15 at the age of 72 due to health complications.

The Election Commission has fixed November 4 for polling.

He added that PSB is supporting the GPS candidate because Sarawak is now undergoing significant transformation under a dedicated leader, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

"We recognise that at this crucial stage of state development, political unity and stability are the two important elements that cannot be faulted and should be the targets to aim for," said Wong.

"One way we can identify is to look for similarities, rather than differences. If we are 80% similar and 20% different, why should we allow the small difference to rule our relationship with others," he added.

He spoke of a Unity Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 9.

"Having made that historic and irrevocable choice, we are ready to give full support and to rally strongly behind the GPS government under the leadership of Abang Johari while also fully supporting the unity government at the Federal level," said Wong.
