Kedah’s winning formula can help attract non-Malays, says PAS’ Suffian Yusoff

SHAH ALAM: A PAS delegate calls for leaders to adopt Kedah’s winning formula following the state election results in August in efforts to attract non-Malays.

Bandar Baharu state assemblyman Prof Dr Suffian Yusoff said the leaders could consider using Kedah Perikatan Nasional’s strategy for the next general election following the PAS-led state government's big win on Aug 12.

"The composition of Kedah state is almost similar to the diverse population of the country. The formula used by Kedah Perikatan could be applied to other states in our strategy to win the next general election.

"But such efforts require contribution, cooperation and sacrifice from all," when debating the president’s policy speech at the party’s 69th Muktamar held at IDCC Centre on Saturday (Oct 21).

Suffian said the party must work harder to attract the non-Malay votes even though Perikatan Nasional had displayed positive progress in the recent state elections as well as the 15th General Election (GE15).

"The popularity of Kedah Perikatan led by PAS has increased significantly during the state elections when compared with GE15.

"We managed to obtain 33 of 36 seats in Kedah in the state election. Our candidates managed to topple Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional leaders.

"The achievement of PAS and Kedah Perikatan does not stop there. The composition of the state government included a state assemblyman from Gerakan, a true reflection of the Perikatan’s spirit," he added.

PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang in his policy speech yesterday (Oct 20), had admitted the party should put more effort to attract support from more non-Malays.
