KUALA LUMPUR: It was unique, quick and engaging, says job seekers who participated in myStarJob Fair 2023’s first-ever job matching session.

myStarJob Events and Sales manager Nicholas Tan said that the session aimed to increase job seekers' chances to secure a position by engaging with up to 12 recruiters quickly.

“We want to gather recruiters and job seekers for some specific job functions to interact with each other.

“This was one of our efforts to make job hunting more interesting. Rather than having to go to the exhibitors’ booth one by one, we match them here, and each job seeker has up to two minutes to pitch about themselves.

“This would increase their chances to get hired as they could meet more recruiters,” he said.

Each pre-registered job seeker is given two minutes to interact with the recruiters in the session.

Their resumes would have been shared with the companies, and if the recruiters were interested, the candidates would proceed to the next stage of recruitment.

The myStarjob Fair 2023 in Midvalley Exhibition Centre (MVEC) is open from 11am to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday (Oct 21 and 22).

Siti Rose Ayu Rosli, 28, from Nilai, Negri Sembilan, said she enjoyed the whole job-matching process, adding that it was very engaging.

“I was lost at first. When they started counting down, I got nervous. However, I managed to get over myself and be confident.

“I felt like it was more efficient than visiting each booth that fit what I aim for.

“Even if the job matching session does not offer my preferred job functions, I still have the opportunity to build rapport with the recruiters who could help me in the future,” she added.

Fresh graduate Ammravathy Gunaselan, 23, said the session was informative as she could speak directly with the recruiters.

“It was enjoyable. It was fast, and I think it was more effective in getting more information than going to booths individually,” she said.

Master's degree graduate from Egypt Amr Mihany, 29, said he felt like it was the longest two minutes of his life despite the short time.

“It was quick, yet I felt it was so long when I had to ‘sell’ myself to the recruiters.

“At the same time, I could also learn about the companies, what they are looking for and what skills they prefer,” he said.

Organised by Malaysia’s leading media organisation, Star Media Group, the job fair features over 60 exhibitors from various companies, supported by event partners Reskill Edtech (Official Resume Clinic Partner) and Sendquick (Official Mobile Messaging Partner).

Visitors may also stand a chance to win mystery prizes when participating in the Register & Win contest, Listen & Win contest and many more contests happening during the event on both days.

The diamond sponsor for the fair is Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia; platinum sponsors are Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd and Toyota Malaysia; while silver sponsors are FIND, Genius Development, Institut Jantung Negara, and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd.

Admission to the fair is free.
