SHAH ALAM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim needs to be more vocal in his support for the Palestinian group Hamas, says Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

“Hamas is against Israel in accordance to Islamic struggles unlike Daesh which was formed by western agents to provoke the Muslim countries,” the PAS president told reporters at the 69th PAS muktamar yesterday.

The theme for this year’s muktamar is to show solidarity with Palestine following Israel’s siege and bombing of Gaza.

In keeping with the theme, PAS’ big names and delegates held a rally for Palestine around the muktamar’s venue at the IDCC Convention Centre here.

A brief march was also held and led by Jerteh assemblyman Riduan Mohamad followed by seven Jabatan Amal personnel.

The opening ceremony was attended by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has been appointed adviser for Perikatan Nasional’s SG4.

Perikatan is the coalition comprising PAS, Bersatu and Gerakan.

SG4 refers to the four state governments administered by Perikatan.

A launch gimmick for SG4 was performed by PAS’ four mentri besar – Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor of Kedah, Mohd Shukri Ramli (Perlis), Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud (Kelantan) and Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (Terengganu).

Also present at the launch were Perikatan leaders including its chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Perikatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau, Putra vice-president Datuk Asmawar Samad and Muafakat Nasional chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

About 5,000 attendees including PAS delegates and observers attended the opening ceremony and assembly which will end tomorrow.
