RM15.6mil smuggled items seized in special ops


KUALA LUMPUR: Diesel, frozen food and household items worth RM15.6mil were seized during several raids by the Wildlife Crime Bureau (WCB)/Special Investigation Intelligence (PSK).

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali said 14 individuals were detained during the special operations codenamed "Ops Tiris" and "Ops Taring".

From Oct 10 to 20, four Ops Tiris raids and eight Ops Taring raids were conducted nationwide.

"On Ops Tiris, we detained 11 local men aged between 20 and 48 and a 22-year-old male Myanmar national.

"We also seized about RM1.4mil worth of pilfered diesel," he said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 21).

Meanwhile, he said on Ops Taring, the WCB/PSK detained two Indonesian men.

"The WCB/PSK also seized 54,515 boxes of frozen food, 144 packets of sugar and 880 packets of cooking oil.

"The estimated worth of the seized items is RM14.1mil, and we are investigating under the Animal Enactment 2015 and Supply Control Act 1961," he said.

Comm Hazani said all operations managed to curb and cut the network of syndicates smuggling controlled items and frozen food, which have been active nationwide.
