PAS meet: There needs to be a better way to pick candidates, says Selangor PAS

SHAH ALAM: Perikatan Nasional and PAS should only place a candidate with forethought, says Sallehen Mukhyi.

When debating PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang's policy speech at the 69th muktamar, the Selangor PAS delegate said discussion among leaders to field potential candidates should start now and not closer to the elections.

“There is a need to form a team to determine the level of support that can be provided for each constituency.

“For example, in the parliamentary and state assembly seats we have yet to capture, there is a need for a guideline and standard.

“We do not want to just field a candidate when they lack support. The decision needs to be scrutinised because certain candidates can just meet the leaders and become candidates,” he said.

Sallehen said that a guideline or standard issued by the coalition would be helpful and fair for respective parties when fielding their candidates.

“From this, the leaders can judge based on one parliament and one state assembly who is most eligible for the seat, and that can be the basis for our decision.

“This aspect must be evaluated and formulated now. Because if a candidate cannot meet the standards, then no matter if they are from Bersatu or PAS, they cannot file the candidate there,” he added.
