IPOH: About 2,000 contract medical officers will be offered permanent positions by the end of the year, says Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
The Health Minister said this was part of the 12,800 permanent positions that would be filled, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Budget 2023.
“With the cooperation of the Public Services Commission, we have offered another 2,083 additional contracts as permanent medical officers,” she said.
Dr Zaliha was speaking to reporters after attending the Health Ministry Training Institute convocation ceremony in Ulu Kinta, near here, yesterday.
“We expect them to report at our facilities before the end of December.
“Part of the placement of contract medical officers was completed at the end of July,” Dr Zaliha added.
She also said that as of last month, there were still 37,058 contract officers in the country and 31,459 vacancies.
“About 27% of the vacancies have been filled with contract officers,” she said.
Separately, Dr Zaliha said Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli’s condition is improving after suffering from a heart ailment recently.
She said she was informed about Rafizi’s condition a few days ago.
“I received news that he is getting better. I pray and hope he can return to his duties soon,” she added.
The Pandan MP had reportedly suffered a heart attack and was rushed to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for treatment.
