JOHOR BARU: MIC will leave it to Tan Sri M. Ramasamy(pic) to decide on his appeal to send back his Segamat election petition to the Election Court for a full hearing, says the party president.

"I have told him that we support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and we do not have any differences in opinions.

"Even if we win, Barisan Nasional is still under the current government.

"I have advised him accordingly, and I believe he will heed the advice. However, I leave it to him to decide (on whether to drop the appeal)," said Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran when asked to comment on the matter.

He said this after attending the Johor MIC convention on Sunday (Oct 22).

In August, the Federal Court had allowed Ramasamy’s appeal to send back his Segamat election petition to the Election Court for a full hearing.

The court set aside an April 3 decision of the Election Court, which struck out Ramasamy’s election petition.

During the 15th General Election, R. Yuneswaran from Pakatan Harapan won the seat with a 5,669 majority.

Ramasamy stood as a candidate for Barisan for that parliamentary constituency. He subsequently filed the election petition seeking, among others, a declaration that the Parliamentary election for the Segamat constituency was void and a declaration that Yuneswaran was not duly elected as an MP.
