PAS meet: State policies under PAS rule must be decided by party, says Hadi

SHAH ALAM: All policies in states under Perikatan Nasional and run by PAS Mentris Besar must be decided by the party, says Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

The party president said that being just and fair to all is the basis of PAS’ style of governance and politics

He also said that there are those who attack Islam by attacking the syariah laws in the country.

The Marang MP said this during his closing speech on the last day of the PAS’ 69th Muktamar held at the IDCC Convention Centre on Sunday (Oct 22).

“We won big in four states (Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis) with the biggest number of seats in the Parliament.

“However, our struggle based on Islam is not merely cosmetic and rhetoric for worship to us (as a political party) is not merely about praying in the mosques.

“Worship for us is also about being fair to all in serving the people, safeguarding the welfare of all and ensuring a balanced economy and forbidding evil.

“There have been many times we were victimised during our struggle to rise to the top. This teaching is not to be like Pakatan Harapan, which talks about cruelty but then they themselves are cruel to their opponents.

“We must prove that in the states that we now govern, we care for the underprivileged although we cannot appease everyone,” said Abdul Hadi.

He further said that the party must control the state and this is written in the constitution of PAS - whereby all policies of the state must be approved by the party.

“The Perikatan states which are now governed by PAS Mentris Besar are advised by a special committee decided by the party. On top of that the MBs are answerable to the party.

“When we are the state government, leaders must stop playing the role of the opposition. Unfortunately, there are among us who despite being the state government, we still tend to think and act as the opposition.

“The PAS divisions must work together to assist the state governments run by PAS MBs in running the state. Stop biting at each other,” said Abdul Hadi.

He also said that the attacks on the syariah laws are actually the real 3Rs (religion, race and royalty) which PAS members should be wary of.

“We will not stand by if such attacks happen.

“Khutbah and kuliyyahs are not the same as political ceramahs but there are some religious leaders who use their sermons as political campaigns.

“The religious leaders must understand this,” said Abdul Hadi.

Abdul Hadi also said that Malaysian Muslims must learn from the Palestinian groups of Hamas and Hezbollah which are of different sects in Islam but fight together using the same laws of war for the same objective against the Zionist regime of Israel.

“This is because they both believe that they are seeking martyrdom in the name of Islam. They are unlike that of the Da’esh which was funded by the enemies of Islam as provocateurs to create a wedge among the Muslims,” said Abdul Hadi.

Over the last three days, about 5,000 PAS delegates and observers converged for the party’s 69th Muktamar.
