CRIB Foundation (Child Rights Innovation and Betterment) co-chairperson Srividhya Ganapathy said the hotline was being underutilised and that many were still unaware of what they could do to help stop child abuse.
Srividhya said more cases could be stopped if people knew what to do and where to report.
“When people encounter suspected cases of child abuse such as when they see a child being left in the car for hours at the parking lot or when they hear their neighbour’s kid crying non-stop at all hours of the day, they don’t know who to call or what will happen if they call,” she said.
Srividhya added that people might also not be aware that Talian Nur has been integrated into Talian Kasih.
“We need a dedicated line for children,” she said.
She added that Talian Kasih, a publicly accessible hotline through the toll-free line 15999 and the WhatsApp application 019 261 5999, should also be promoted more on all fronts.
