Enact new 3R law to clarify offences, says Takiyuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: A new law related to race, religion and royalty (3R) should be enacted to give a clear guideline on what constitutes an offence, says Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

The Kota Baru MP said that a clear definition should be made to rubbish accusations that are used only against certain politicians.

"Actually, we are unclear on what constitutes an offence related to 3R, what type of offences that can be classified as 3R," he said during the Supply Bill 2024 debate in Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Oct 23).

"Is it anything and everything that is related to religion, race and ruler? I agree with Kuala Selangor's (Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad) idea to enact a law so we can review it and what can or cannot not be done," said the PAS lawmaker.

Earlier, Dzulkefly Ahmad (PH) proposed to enact an anti-hate speech law to address such issues.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution had revealed in Dewan Rakyat that a total of 104 investigation papers had been open related to 3R cases.

Those investigated include Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, said Saifuddin.
