Malaysia will never stop fighting for rights of Palestinians, says Wan Junaidi

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will never stop fighting for the rights of Palestinians, says Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The Dewan Negara president said this was based on the principles of international law where Palestine had official rights since 1947.

In a statement on Monday (Oct 23), Wan Junaidi explained that this includes rights for Palestinians to live in peace and harmony in their land, to reclaim land that had been taken illegally by the Israeli regime in 1948, and to form an independent and sovereign Palestine based on international borders pre-1967, with BaitulMaqdis as its capital.

Wan Junaidi said he also received a visit from Palestine ambassador to Malaysia Walid AM Abuali on Monday.

“I reiterated Malaysia’s stance in condemning the genocide and cruelty that is happening to the people of Palestine,” he said.

He added that the Palestinian ambassador’s explanation on the issue also made it clear that the ongoing genocide was to evict Palestinains out of Gaza.

“I call on the international community, especially the Western powers, to be humane and take immediate and drastic action to stop the cruel and inhumane genocide towards Palestinians,” he said.

Wan Junaidi said the Palestinian ambassador also conveyed his gratitude and highest appreciation to the Malaysian government, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Malaysians in supporting Gaza.

Separately, the Dewan Negara president also called for the media to carry out fair reporting that reflected the actual situation in Gaza.

“The narrative by certain media that Israel’s military actions are merely targeting Hamas is inaccurate as there are dead and injured victims comprising the public and children, who are not part of the Hamas army,” he added.
