Floods force evacuation of 50 residents in Teluk Intan


IPOH: A total of 50 people from 16 families in Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan have been evacuated to the Dewan Serbaguna Padang Tembak flood relief centre (PPS) after overflowing river waters flooded their houses.

A spokesman of the Hilir Perak District Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said the affected areas were Kedah Lane; the back lane of Klinik Desa Changkat Jong; Batu 9, Simpang 3; and Batu 10.

"Sungai Bidor burst its banks due to heavy rain from afternoon until midnight on Sunday (Oct 22) in Batang Padang, Muallim.

"Water from the upper reaches flowed to Sungai Bidor towards Sungai Perak," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 24).

He said the PPS was opened at 7pm on Monday (Oct 23).

According to him, Sungai Bidor was at a danger level of 4.13m as of 7.30am on Tuesday and good weather was reported in the area. - Bernama
