KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) on Tuesday (Oct 24) announced the appointment of Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin as its new Editor-in-Chief, effective immediately.

Nur-ul Afida, 56, also creates history as the first woman ever appointed to hold the position at the news agency since its establishment in 1967.

Nur-ul Afida takes over the post from Jamaluddin Muhammad, who was appointed as the agency’s chief executive officer on Oct 19.

In lauding the appointment, Jamaluddin said Nur-ul Afida has extensive experience in the field of journalism and has held several key positions in Bernama, including Deputy Editor-in-Chief of News Services since June this year.

The former Bernama Head of Strategic Planning has been with the agency for 38 years since 1985.

She has also held various roles within different departments and units in Bernama, including the General News Desk, Malay Subs Desk, Photo Unit, Feature and Strategic Writing Desk, besides contributing as a trainer at the Bernama School of Journalism since 2009. - Bernama
