KUALA LUMPUR: A heated session erupted in the Dewan Rakyat when a senior PAS MP admitted that he had prayed for the downfall of the federal government.
Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh (PN-Pasir Puteh) said that he had prayed for the “demise” of the government as it had "acted beyond the limits of humanity."
He also said he did so due to various alleged injustices it had done to the people.
Muhammad Zawawi added that the government allocation was not a matter of personal propriety and was meant for the people.
“If this belonged to Tambun (MP Anwar), I would not say anything, but this is the property of the people and the country and must be distributed.
"God willing, I think... (this government) will not last long, and God willing, this government will meet its end," he added during the Budget 2024 debate in Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Oct 25).
RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) then stood up and cited Standing Order 36(6), which states that no Member of Parliament shall impute the improper motives of any other member.
Rayer said such remarks were filled with ill-intention and caused division among the people.
Lee Chuan Kow (PH-Ipoh Timur) also stood up to protest the remarks, saying that such a statement from Muhammad Zawawi was wrong.
However, Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Ramli Mohd Nor intervened, asking Muhamad Zawawi to clarify his statement.
Zawawi then clarified that he had no ill intention towards the government and denied trying to cause “hurt” towards the government's feelings.
Ramli then said that he was satisfied with the explanation given by Muhammad Zawawi and ruled that it was not as alleged by Rayer and Chuan.
