Police arrest five in Sibu over fight about debt

SIBU: Police here have arrested five people in connection with a fight in a public place on Tuesday (Oct 24).

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said a 71-year-old motorcyclist was killed when a vehicle used by one group of suspects hit him during a cat-and-mouse chase.

"The police received information about a fight in Lorong Wong King Hou at about 6.45am and upon arriving at the scene arrested five men aged between 17 and 30," he said.

ACP Zulkipli then said that two vehicles, two knives and a rattan cane were seized when the men were arrested.

He added that the fight was due to debt issues between the two groups and added that the urine tests of all suspects came back positive for several drugs, including methamphetamine and ketamine.

ACP Zulkipli also said that the death of the motorcyclist is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
