KUCHING: Sarawak is on track to become a high-income state by 2030 as targeted in its post-Covid development strategy (PCDS 2030), says a state minister.
Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said PCDS 2030 focused on six economic sectors with seven enablers towards achieving this goal.
The sectors are manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, forestry, mining and social services while the enablers comprise digital transformation, innovation, education, infrastructure, utilities, transport and renewable energy.
"Although the World Bank has already classified Sarawak as a high-income state, we will not rest on our laurels.
"We are on the right track and we will continue our efforts to increase the income of Sarawakians based on PCDS 2030," Julaihi told reporters after inspecting a rural electrification scheme project at Rumah Richard Umkar in Tatau, Bintulu, on Wednesday (Oct 25).
In July, the World Bank's latest data showed that Sarawak was a high-income state with a gross national income (GNI) per capita above USD13,205.
Julaihi also said the state government had a clear development agenda through PCDS 2030.
He said the strategy was well-structured and based on the actual situation throughout the state.
"If an area still needs development, we have plans in place to be implemented in phases.
"I believe the people can see for themselves what the state government is doing," he added.
