Senior citizen charged with drug distribution in Johor court


MUAR: A septuagenarian has been brought to the court here for distributing drugs.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the suspect, in his 70s, was arrested at his house in Jalan Ibrahim here at 11.30pm last Friday (Oct 20).

“The arrest was based on intelligence gathered by the Narcotics Department.

“We did a sweep at his house and found 100 Erimin-5 pills weighing 30.55g, 80.40g syabu and 109.56g heroin worth RM20,070.

“Apart from the drugs, we also seized a car, jewellery and cash worth RM541,300,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 25).

ACP Raiz Mukhliz added that the senior citizen was charged at the Muar court under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 on Wednesday where no bail was offered.

If convicted of the offence, he could be sentenced to death or lifetime imprisonment and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, he added.
