Boy lodges false police report in fear of reprimand after coming home late

SEREMBAN: A 13-year-old boy lodged a false report alleging that he was kidnapped because he was afraid of being reprimanded by his parents for coming home late after school.

Nilai police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said the boy lodged a report at the Lenggeng station about the so-called abduction at 9.26pm on Wednesday (Oct 25).

"The boy claimed that while waiting at a bus stop outside a school around 2.15pm, a white car came up and stopped near him.

"A man then apparently came out and dragged him into the car," he said, adding that the kidnapper had allegedly tied the boy's hands and gagged him.

Supt Abdul Malik said the boy claimed the kidnapper then took him to an unknown location, but he managed to escape.

He said a police probe later showed that the boy had made up the story.

"The boy was playing games at his friend's house and lost track of time.

"Afraid of being scolded by his father, he decided to lodge a false report," he added.

Those who lodge false reports can be charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code.

Offenders can be jailed for up to six months or fined up to RM2,000 or both upon conviction.
