Country's sovereignity priority in WHO CA+, IHR 2005 talks, says Dr Zaliha

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will ensure the country's sovereignty is always prioritised in negotiations over the Pandemic Treaty of the World Health Organisation Convention Agreement (WHO CA+) and the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005) amendment.

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said she has listened to the concerns of the people regarding the issue of WHO CA+ and the IHR 2005 amendment.

"Our involvement is crucial to ensuring our voice is heard and any decision that will be made at the WHO level does not conflict with our principles, especially matters that touch the sensitivities of Malaysians.

"No decision will be given until everything is agreed. I give the commitment that the country's sovereignty will also be a priority in these negotiations,” she said in a Facebook post Thursday (Oct 26).

The Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) was previously reported to have demanded that the government reject the WHO CA+ negotiations and IHR 2005 amendment for fear that it could threaten the country's sovereignty. - Bernama
