Ipoh cops cripple 'Geng Jiva' with arrests of three men, woman

IPOH: The police here have arrested four people, including a woman, believed to have been involved in a spate of armed gang robbery in several areas.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the suspects, aged between 26 and 35 years old, were arrested during a raid at a house in Taman Syabas here on Oct 24 at about 5.45pm.

"They are known as Geng Jiva, and they would go into people's homes and even beat up the elderly while robbing them.

"With their arrests, we believe we have solved 58 crime cases here, which included 24 violent crimes and 34 property crimes," he said, adding that the areas they targeted included Canning Garden, Ipoh Garden East and Bercham.

"We've also seized various items, including a knife, a motorcycle and mobile phones used by the suspects, during the raid," he said in the statement on Thursday (Oct 26).

ACP Yahaya said the suspects would be investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.

"We have obtained a remand order of up to four days to investigate them.

"Checks conducted on the four suspects found that they have previous crime records," he said, adding that three of the suspects, including the woman, were tested positive for methamphetamine.

"We are now in the process of completing the investigation papers before referring the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office with recommendation to charge them," he added.
