KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat Speaker has rejected a Perikatan Nasional MP's motion to refer Lim Guan Eng (PH-Bagan) to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee.

In a letter sighted by The Star, Tan Sri Johari Abdul rejected the motion by Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang).

“I had Bagan explain the matter raised and found that Bagan’s statement did not impute improper motives nor mislead the house.

“With that, I reject this motion,” Johari said in the letter dated Oct 18.

On Oct 11, during his Budget 2024 speech, Lim referred to Wan Ahmad Fayhsal’s appearance on a radio programme on Nov 16, 2020.

During the programme, Wan Ahmad Faysal, the deputy youth and sports minister at the time, said that the government should look past debts and print money.

He was criticised for the proposal due to the inflationary risks involved.

He defended his claim, stating that modern monetary theory experts believed this would be fine as long as the country produced enough goods and services to be spent on.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal filed the motion on Oct 11, mentioning that Lim took his comments out of context on the same day.
