We will continue to speak out, says Anwar

CYBERJAYA: Malaysia will continue to speak out in support of the Palestinian cause despite threats from several nations, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Yes, there were some (threats) but we will explain our stand to these countries,” he said.

“It is not a problem. Let us not be deterred. We have work to do and we will continue with our work,” he told reporters after launching Karnival Dekad Bahasa Kebangsaan and Dekad Membaca Kebangsaan at the Multimedia University yesterday.

Anwar was asked to elaborate on his speech at the “Malaysia Bersama Palestin” rally in Bukit Jalil on Tuesday where he mentioned that Malaysia had received criticism from pro-Israel countries, particularly the United States, for its support of Gaza and the Palestinians.

He had told the gathering that despite getting such threats, he would not bow down to intimidation on the nation’s stance on Palestine.

Yesterday, Anwar reiterated that Malaysia would not retract its support for Palestine.

“God willing, we will carry on with our work,” he said.
