Plans for hiring of ex-convicts

Kuala Lumpur: Several agencies and ministries are working together with the Prisons Department to help ex-convicts get jobs after they are released said the Home Affairs Ministry.

Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah (pic) said these bodies included the Labour Department, the Human Resources Ministry, Socso (social security organisation), LPP (Farmers Organisation Authority) and the Youth and Sports Ministry.

“It is important to provide such opportunities to ex-offenders who had mended their ways so they can build a new and better life,” he said in response to a supplementary question from Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan (BN-Kuala Pilah).

Adnan had asked the ministry on measures to encourage employers to hire ex-convicts and plans to encourage them to join Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
