Batu Gajah district council urged to be clear with tax assessment revaluation exercise

IPOH: The Batu Gajah District Council needs to be clear with their planned assessment tax revaluation exercise, says a former Perak Youth Assembly (PYA) representative.

A former PYA Malim Nawar representative, Wong Chin Ho, said he has received many complaints from concerned locals in the district, as they were all caught off guard by it.

"Many folks are worried that the district council could revise and increase the rate.

"The district council needs to explain their plan clearly to the people," he said in a statement.

"If there are plans to increase the rate, I hope the district council will reconsider given the current economic downturn and ringgit that continues to weaken.

"It will be a painful blow to the people and businesses, which could further impact the local economy," he added.

Wong said the letter on the reevaluation exercise has been sent out to the people in the district, including Tanjung Tualang, which is under the Malim Nawar state constituency and Kampar parliamentary constituency, on June 27.

"It stated that the exercise will be conducted from Sept 1 this year to Aug 31 next year," he said.

"The district council has also hired a consultancy firm to help with the exercise," he added.

He said the people in the district were also required to fill in an owner's return form and to send the form back to the district council within two weeks.

“Many residents who face language issues don’t know how to deal with it and even told me that they have no recourse and don’t know which district councillor they can turn to to help them fill out the form.

"I urge Kampar MP Chong Zhemin, Malim Nawar assemblyman V. Shasha and the relevant district councillors to meet and explain the exercise to the people," he said.
