KUALA LUMPUR: Close to RM800mil worth of contraband, drugs and other items have been seized in foiled smuggling attempts by the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) this year, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
The Inspector-General of Police said the department recorded 6,476 cases between January and September, resulting in 4,356 individuals being detained.
“Various contraband worth RM789.99mil were also seized during the same period,” he said in his speech during the Bukit Aman monthly assembly yesterday.
The department’s Wildlife Crime Bureau also recently successfully seized RM21mil worth of frozen food.
“The General Operations Force (GOF) also seized 495kg of syabu worth RM17.8mil while the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) conducted 28 raids, resulting in RM37.3mil in seized items.
“The department, through the Marine Police, also seized RM37.1mil worth of contraband and arrested 64 individuals,” he said.
The country’s top cop said the KDNKA has mobilised all elements under it in a total manner, especially to increase security at the country’s entry points.
“They have also conducted various operations by mobilising their assets,” he said.
The IGP commended the department’s successes and hoped their operations would be consistent.
“We must not rest on our laurels but strive to do better,” he said.
On another matter, the IGP said firmness in supervising through close monitoring of subordinates is crucial to improving the police’s service.
He said society demands a high standard of police services, so the supervisors must play their role in minimising the opportunities for wrongdoing among their personnel.
“The leaders must be fully aware of the actions of their personnel,” he said.
He added that they must give criticism and advice, as well as take action against those whose actions could tarnish the image of the police force.
