Five motorists nabbed at traffic stop after testing positive for drugs


KUALA LUMPUR: Five motorists have been arrested after testing positive for drugs during a special traffic operation at Ampang here.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the operation was conducted between 9am and 11am at the Middle Ring Road 2 Kampung Pandan exit.

"The objective of the operations was to take action against motorists who break the law and use drugs. We checked 115 individuals and arrested five individuals for methamphetamine and ganja consumption," he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 29).

He said police also issued 60 summonses to motorists for various offences.

"26 summonses were issued for operating a vehicle without a valid license, not using a seat belt (12 summonses), fancy number plate offences (nine summonses), expired road tax (six summonses), as well as one summons respectively for not wearing a helmet, beating the red light, not have side mirrors and P/L license offences.

"We also seized eight motorcycles and two cars for further action," she said.

ACP Mohd Azam advised motorists to always comply with the traffic rules to keep themselves, their family members and other road users safe.
