KUANTAN: The Pahang Mentri Besar had a slip of the tongue when he called for the destruction of Palestine at a rally, says a state exco member.

State communications and multimedia, youth, sports and non-governmental organisations committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal said that Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail clearly misspoke at the Pahang For Palestine rally on Saturday (Oct 28).

"I was there and at that time, the Mentri Besar gave a very spirited speech and that was when the gaffe happened," Fadzli said.

In a video clip of the rally that has since gone viral, Wan Rosdy was seen yelling "Palestin hancur" several times before Fadzli approached from behind to correct him.

Fadzli said he quickly stepped in to inform Wan Rosdy of the mistake and the latter admitted to the slip-up.

In a following video clip, Wan Rosdy was seen yelling "Israel hancur" and then asking for the earlier mistake to be edited out.

"He asked for the mistake not to be publicised. We all know the Mentri Besar has no intention to support Israel. We clearly know that is wrong but why is the mistake going viral? What is the intention behind all this," said Fadzli.

He said there were many other things about the rally that could have been publicised such as Pahang being the first state to organise a large gathering to support Palestine.

Fadzli then added that Wan Rosdy announced that the state government will donate RM100,000 to the Pahang For Palestine fund.

"The Mentri Besar, in a stern and bold tone, condemned the United Nations for its failure to take firm action against Israel. This is what should have gone viral," said Fadzli.

He added that the public should not spread news that could affect harmony in the community for the sake of chasing popularity, attention, views and likes.
