Sabah Pakatan urges Education Dept to review Palestine solidarity campaign in schools

KOTA KINABALU: The state Education Department should review the implementation of the Solidarity Campaign for the Palestinian People in accordance with the conditions set by the Education Ministry, says Pakatan Harapan.

Sabah Pakatan chairman Datuk Christina Liew, Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedik, Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung, Sabah PKR chairman Datuk Dr Sangkar Rasam and Sabah Amanah chairman Lahirul Latigu said this in a joint statement, Sunday (Oct 29).

“Sabah Pakatan rejects the methods and culture of violence used in educating students in Sabah in any programme at the school level,” they said.

They added that the practice of provocation by using weapons was inappropriate and against the culture of harmony, which was the core of the plurality of various religions and races in this state.

The Sabah Pakatan leaders then added that they are very concerned about the conflict and humanitarian crisis happening in Palestine at the moment, but feel that this concern needed to be translated in the context of awareness.

They said that this is in line with promoting a culture of kindness and peace in line with the Concept of Malaysia Madani.

“Sabah Pakatan also urges the ministry and Education Department not to make this Solidarity Campaign mandatory in Sabah and to give space to the schools to decide on a method that is wise in accordance with the culture of Sabah,” they added
