Three sustain minor injuries as heavy rain brings down roof at mall


PETALING JAYA: Three people sustained minor injuries when a section of roof at the Megah Rise Mall here collapsed during an episode of heavy downpour.

The 3pm incident yesterday, saw the ceiling of the car porch at the mall’s entrance collapse.

A statement on the Megah Rise Mall Facebook page said that the incident is being investigated while immediate action has been taken to manage the situation.

“We regret to inform you that the ceiling of the car porch in front of Megah Rise Mall entrance collapsed during strong winds and heavy downpours this afternoon at approximately 3pm, resulting in three minor injuries,” said the statement yesterday.

“Our mall is still operating. We have cordoned off the affected area,” it added.

Meanwhile, in MELAKA, eight classrooms and the administration block of SMK Munshi Abdullah in Batu Berendam were badly damaged when a storm and strong winds hit yesterday.

The school’s principal, Ramli Abdullah, said damages were severe and two teachers’ rooms were also affected in the incident at about 2.30pm. “The classrooms were supposed to be used for Monday’s SPM trial examination.”

The storm also caused the uprooting of several trees that fell on cars in Taman Merdeka.
