A POLICEMAN performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on a snake, which eventually survived, Makkal Osai reported.
Athul Sharma, who is based in India’s Madhya Pradesh state, had earlier responded to an emergency call about a snake in a house.
The house owner had noticed that a large snake was trying to enter the house through a pipe.
He poured some water mixed with poison onto the snake and managed to pull it out of the pipe.
However, he then felt sorry for the snake which seemed unable to move and was apparently struggling to breathe.
The house owner then called the police for help.
Athul arrived at the scene and carried out the resuscitation on the reptile, which soon recovered.
Townsfolk who witnessed the incident praised the policeman’s bravery.
Athul said he had rescued around 500 snakes during his 15 years with the force.
Though feared for their evident danger, snakes are considered part of Hindu mythology and respected in Indian culture, especially the Indian cobra.
