KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) supporters have been urged to go out and vote in the Jepak by-election this Saturday (Nov 4).
GPS by-election operations director Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said voters should not be taken in by viral social media messages claiming that there is no need to turn out as GPS would win.

"If GPS supporters don't go out to vote, how can we win? In any election, no matter how loudly anyone shouts, it is the ballot papers that will be counted," he told reporters after a meet-the-people session at Kampung Hilir Tatau in Bintulu on Tuesday (Oct 31).
Awang Tengah said he had instructed the GPS election machinery to mobilise supporters and ensure that they head to the ballot box on polling day.
"Don't be late and don't wait until the last minute. This is what we want to emphasise now – our supporters must go out to vote," he said.
Awang Tengah, the Deputy Premier, also said he had seen good support for GPS candidate Iskandar Turkee throughout the campaign so far.

"What is important is to ensure that the strong support is translated into victory on Nov 4," he said.
With a big win for GPS, he added, the state government could continue developing Jepak smoothly and effectively.
"A strong show of support will spur us to continue our development plans for the benefit of the people and their future," he said.
The Jepak by-election was called following the death of its assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip on Sept 15.
GPS' Iskandar is in a three-cornered fight with Stevenson Joseph Sumbang from Parti Bumi Kenyalang and Chieng Lea Phing from Sarawak People's Aspiration Party.
