KK cops arrest 15 stealing metal from abandoned construction site

KOTA KINABALU: A group of thieves were caught red-handed stealing metal fittings by city police at an abandoned construction site here.

Police rounded up 15 people, including two women, at the site in Tanjung Lipat that has been left idle for six years.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said they stormed the location at 3.15pm on Monday (Oct 30).

He said the suspects, aged from 25 to 49, were caught removing fittings and other iron items.

"Among the items they intended to steal were wires, frames, aluminium rods and pipes," he said on Tuesday (Oct 31).

ACP Mohd Zaidi said police believe they have solved at least two cases of theft at construction sites since Oct 28.

He advised the public not to trespass into construction sites to take items, warning that they could be arrested for theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
