AN integrated data system for disaster management will be put to use for the first time during the year-end monsoon season, says Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

“This November will be the first time the Defence Geospatial Information Management Platform is being used to face the northeast monsoon,” said the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) in reply to a question by Zahir Hassan (PH-Wangsa Maju).

He added that the platform is the integration of geospatial data under the Geospatial Information System involving several agencies.“This is to create a joint common operating picture (JCOP) to manage disasters. It will also serve as an open centralised database,” he added.

He said JCOP will be updated 24 hours a day through the National Disaster Control Centre under the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

“This will enable us to get the latest information on the situation and location of a disaster,” he said.
