Senior citizen denies caressing and hugging woman, claims trial in Melaka


MELAKA: An octogenarian has claimed trial at the Magistrate's Court in Ayer Keroh here to a charge of molesting a 50-year-old woman.

Liang Sing Kup, 82, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Khairunnisak Hasni on Tuesday (Oct 31).

According to the charge sheet, Liang was said to have outraged the modesty of Teng Mee Cheng by caressing her hands, hugging her and grabbing her head.

The offence was allegedly committed at an office in Jalan Merdeka, Taman Melaka Raya, Bandar Hilir in the Melaka Tengah district at about 3.50pm on Sept 11.

The charge was framed under Section 354 of the Penal Code for use of force with intent to outrage a person's modesty.

It carries a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine or whipping, or any two of the punishments, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Wardah Ishar prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer A. Renganathan Abdullah.

The court granted bail of RM3,000 with one surety and fixed Dec 7 for next mention.
