Parliament sitting temporarily halted due to lack of quorum

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat proceedings on Wednesday (Nov 1) were temporarily halted due to a lack of quorum.

This occurred after Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah (PN-Indera Mahkota) pointed out that there was a lack of quorum as Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad was wrapping up his ministerial reply on Budget 2024.

Saifuddin stood up and raised Standing Order 13 and Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor then ordered a headcount.

The number of MPs present in the House was not disclosed.

Ramli then ordered the bell to be rung for two minutes to call more MPs into the House.

Proceedings then resumed and the Deputy Speaker informed the House that there were sufficient MPs to proceed.

Under Standing Order 13, there must be at least 26 MPs in the 222-seat Dewan Rakyat for proceedings to be held.

This is the third time proceedings have come to a halt during the 15th Parliament.

The first time was in March when only 24 MPs were present and proceedings were halted for two minutes.

The second instant was on Oct 19, when a similar situation took place.
