KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said feedback is still needed concerning implementing the Sales and Services Tax (SST) affecting the logistics sector announced under Budget 2024.

"In light of some concerns raised by some Members of Parliament, I have asked the Ministry of Finance to engage them to get some input from them before a final decision is made," the Prime Minister said when wrapping up his ministerial replies on Budget 2024 in Dewan Rakyat on Thursday. (Nov 2)

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, was responding to a question by Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (BN-Ayer Hitam) over the impact of the increase of the SST from 6% to 8% on logistic services.

Dr Wee said there was worry that the increase would have a ripple effect on the logistic services sector.

"I welcome the explanation by the Prime Minister that there would be more clarity on the scope of the SST on the logistic sector," he said.

Dr Wee also raised the issue over the operations of two competing sets when a property is sold.

He cited that both Real Property Gain Tax (RGPT) and Capital Gain Tax (CGT) would impose taxes on the sale of properties.

"Is there a government policy of imposing both taxes?

"Do we need a single piece of law, or should there be amendments?" Dr Wee asked.

He also wanted to know if there would be a blanket implementation of the CGT to include individuals.

Anwar clarified that the CGT would only apply to the sale of unlisted shares to unlisted companies.

However, he said a clearer explanation was needed as the finer workings of the CGT are yet to be done.
