SUBANG JAYA: There are plans to promote the Electrified Automation Advancement Programme (EEAP) to encourage more Indian youth across the country to enrol in the course, says Datuk Ramanan Ramakrishnan.
The Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (Mitra) special committee chairman said the matter will be brought to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to raise awareness on the skill development initiative that combines the electric vehicle (EV) and automation industries in schools for example.
“I will be discussing the matter with the Prime Minister. If you look at the facilities offered by certain academies for the course, they are fully equipped.
“But we need to expand this course so I will discuss with the PM and hopefully the course will be widely known,” he said in a press conference after launching the EEAP at Autotronics Centre of Excellence Sdn Bhd here on Thursday (Nov 2).
Ramanan said 250 students have enrolled for the EEAP where they will be certified with a UK-based Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Level 3 qualification once they graduate.
He said after completing the 28-day course, students will have the offered jobs with an income of more than RM3,000.
“This is an important factor, we do not want to just equip them with skills but also job opportunities so we can uplift these students from the B40 bracket
“The programme is to train and educate students with skills and knowledge such as electrical processes, automation technology and EV integration systems into various industry sectors,” he said.
The EEAP is reported to cost RM2.875mil with Mitra spending RM11,500 per student for the theory and practical course.
All 250 participants will undergo training under SG Education Group involving four locations in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor.
Ramanan also said Mitra has allocated RM11.46mil for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) training courses that benefitted 940 Indian youths.
