No compromise on wayward Bersatu MPs, says Hamzah

PETALING JAYA: Attempts to break up Bersatu will not work even though two of its MPs have shifted their allegiance to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, says party secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

In a statement issued on Thursday (Nov 2), the Opposition Leader said that Bersatu will discipline the two wayward MPs - Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid and Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman.

On Oct 12, Iskandar Dzulkarnain said that he was in support of Anwar’s leadership despite being a Perikatan MP.

Then, on Oct 30, Suhaili Abdul Rahman did the same.

“The leadership of Bersatu is committed to staying loyal to the leadership of Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Any attempts by outsiders to drive a wedge into the party's unity through the actions of Kuala Kangsar and Labuan MPs will not succeed.

“Bersatu is also committed to further strengthening Perikatan Nasional, which received the mandate and large support from the people in the last general and state elections.

“The party will not compromise with any disciplinary misconduct among its members, especially among its MPs and state assemblymen.

“In line with that, the Bersatu supreme council has decided that the state leadership will take over the management of the Kuala Kangsar and Labuan Bersatu divisions,” said Hamzah.

He said that this course of action would be in place while awaiting the results of the Bersatu disciplinary board on Iskandar Dzulkarnain and Suhaili, who were both Kuala Kangsar and Labuan Bersatu division chiefs, respectively.

Hamzah also stated that Bersatu vice-president Datuk Radzi Jidin has also been appointed as the head of the Federal Territory Division Leadership to replace Suhaili, who has been removed due to his recent shift of allegiance against the party’s principles.

Despite their shift of allegiance, Iskandar Dzulkarnain and Suhaili have remained Perikatan MPs due to the anti-hopping laws, which penalise elected representatives who jump to another party.
