Police detain five men, seize 382 packets of ketum water

KUANTAN: Police detained five men and seized 382 packets of ketum water at Kampung Orang Asli Pos Pantos, Kuala Medang in Kuala Lipis on Thursday (Nov 2) morning.

Lipis District Police Chief Supt Azli Mohd Noor said the men, aged between 25 and 35, were nabbed behind a house at about 1.30 am during Op Tapis, which was carried out by a team of Narcotics Crimes Investigation Division from the Lipis Police Headquarters.

He said police discovered the packets of green liquid, believed to be ketum water, as well as a gas tank, stove, and pot, all estimated at RM3,820.

Initial investigations found that the suspects obtained their supply from an Orang Asli man known as "boss”, who lives in Chenderong Balai, Perak, he said.

"The suspects obtained their latest supply of 10 kilogrammes of ketum leaves yesterday. And they have been processing and selling ketum water to the Orang Asli community for the past three months,” he said in a statement today, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act 1952. - Bernama
